“Sycamore Tea” has historically been one of June Appal Recordings’ best sellers. Quay Smathers was a member of the Smathers’ Family Band before he formed the Dutch Cove String Band with his daughters, June, Cynthia and Liz, playing for 20 years at festivals all over the South and winning best band awards at the Asheville Folk Festival and Smoky Mountain Folk Festival. After an incredbile run Quay gathered his daughters, took out a protractor and drew a 50-mile radius around Canton, North Carolina, declaring he was done taveling any further. “Sycamore Tea” is 22 all-time favorites, from waltzes to reels, jigs to polkas.
“Quay Smathers … imparted a warmth in his music, as if each note came with a flickering tongue of the Holy Spirit, as if he were the shepherd welcoming anyone and everyone through the heavenly gates.” - Mountain Grown Music
