James “Pigmeat” Jarrett was born in Georgia and made his career in Cincinatti — but spent the years in between in a mining camp in Rockhouse, Kentucky. The only album he ever released was on Appalshop’s record label, June Appal Recordings. On “Look At All The People,” ragtime piano man Pigmeat takes us back to the barrelhouses, speakeasies, rent parties and frolics of the 1920’s and 30’s.
“Pigment’s playing is sparse and spirited, lean and athletic, deceptively simple and infectiously moving once he slides into a wistful blues singing in a high-pitched voice with a falsetto that sticks in his throat.” - Steve Tracy
