Gary Brewer and Phil Sexton are each the fifth generation of musicians in their families to carry on the tradition of playing and singing bluegrass and old-time Appalachian music. Gary Brewer, well known in bluegrass circles, has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and once toured with Bill Monroe, the “Father of Bluegrass,” who often introduced Gary as, “100% bluegrass, one of the finest guitar players I’ve ever heard, and a mighty powerful singer.” Phillip Sexton is the son of Lee Sexton and great-nephew of Morgan Sexton, both of whom also released albums on Appalshop’s June Appal Recordings, as did Gary’s grandfather “Pap” Brewer.
