You're invited to the Red Fox Storytelling Festival!

You're invited to the 2022 Red Fox Storytelling Festival - full of spooky story-telling, a trail chase, vendors (more info below if you'd like to be one!) and more fun for the whole family!

The 5th Annual Red Fox Storytelling Festival will be held in downtown Pound, VA on October 28-29.

On Friday evening at 7:00 PM we will have a screening of "Red Fox/Second Hanging" at Town Hall. The Pound Lions club will provide popcorn and snacks.

On Saturday, there will be events starting from 9:00 AM including: 

• 9:00 AM - Trail run "Chasing the Red Fox" along the Red Fox Trail (sponsored by the in the Pound Tourism Committee) on Pine Mountain  National Forest near Pound. Signups start at 8:30am on Saturday, race starts at 9:00am. Meet at the Cumberland Fur and Fish Fame Club at 12245 Potter Town Rd, Pound, VA 24279 Pound, VA ( the start of the Red Fox Trail)
• 1:00 PM - Storytelling and music  at Town of Pound Town Hall which will feature:
  • Local spooky stories, including the Vampire of Big Stone Gap and scary stories from the coal mines of Southwest Virginia.
  • A 1 woman play about the life of Granny Shores, a mid-wife who delivered 1000 babies in Eastern Kentucky and SW VA in the late 1800's. She is the focus of a new mural in Downtown Pound.
  • A new play and creative stories by Harlan County's Higher Ground Theater troupe.
  • Local musician Kevin Howard will be playing oldtime music and traditional banjo in between storytellers.
• 5:00PM - The festival will close with a square dance, with players from across Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Festivities will wrap up around 6pm.

Are you a butcher, baker, or candlestick maker as well? This year, the Red Fox Storytelling Festival is seeking arts & crafts vendors to showcase and sell their homespun goods. There is no fee, but vendors will be asked to fill out a short registration form and are expected to provide their own table (and tent, should they want one) Click here to register now! Contact [email protected] with questions.
