Summary: The Development Director is a key role as part of an institutional strategy and management team within Appalshop’s administrative arm. This position will work closely with Appalshop’s Executive Director, Financial Director and Appalshop’s Program Directors. In addition, the Development Director will be responsible for managing all other development staff and contractors.
Job Responsibilities:
The Development Director will lead all institutional fundraising. In particular the position will play a key role in large, multi-year proposals and managing major donor and funder relationships. The position also represents the organization in a variety of settings locally and nationally. Some key responsibilities for this position include:
Travel Requirements: This role will be asked to occasionally travel to regional & national events. On average expect 30% of time to be dedicated to traveling.
Qualifications: The candidate should have at least five years of development experience, preferred in the arts or culture sector. They should be a fast-learner with great organizational, interpersonal and prioritization skills. The candidate will have strong writing skills and demonstrated success in securing both private and public funding. The candidate will be comfortable with Slack, Google docs, Salsa Engage or other CRMs. Ideally candidates will also have experience in running a capital campaign as well as a background in organizational development. Appalshop seeks an applicant who understands the role of community-based arts institutions, can work independently and in teams and has the ability to travel.
Compensation: This role’s salary range is $56,800 - $80,000 salary is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time salaried position with full benefits including 100% employer paid health insurance, including dependents, generous retirement and life insurance benefits package.
Location: Appalshop’s main offices are located in Jenkins, KY. This role is flexible/hybrid work eligible, though an in-person presence 75% of the time is required for this specific position.
