Welcome Roger + Jessie!

Roger is joining Appalshop in a brand-new position that we're calling Operations Director. He'll be working with our Program Directors to increase collaboration between our artistic projects, and figuring out how to ease the administrative burden on our art & media makers so they can do more of what they do best: making art & media!

We couldn't imagine anyone better equipped to support artists at Appalshop than Roger, himelf an artist deeply rooted in these mountains. We're thrilled to have his leadership keeping Appalshop's work sustainable and impactful.

We are also excited to welcome Jessie McNamara to Appalshop as the General Manager of our radio station, WMMT 88.7 FM. 

Jessie comes to us from Nashville, where she worked in the music industry and as a professional comedian. Training at the renowned Groundlings Theatre & School, Jessie found her voice in writing on rural America. Her background in musical, written and spoken storytelling makes her uniquely well-suited to take the reins at WMMT, broadcasting both public affairs reporting, and music as eclectic as our volunteer DJs. We are thrilled to have Jessie at the helm.

Working at Appalshop means being part of a storied organization that tells stories commercial industries don't tell. We challenge stereotypes with Appalachian voices, and we do it all with artists who are from and committed to this region — like Roger and Jessie.
