Two Ways to Help Helene-Affected Families

The July 2022 flood and its aftermath has been one of the most tumultuous periods of Appalshop’s 55-year history. We know firsthand how long healing and recovery takes—our process is still ongoing. But, as quickly as the waters receded, the people arrived. We were mesmerized by the levels of support we received in the days and weeks following—friends and supporters from all over the world showed up at our doorstep, wanting to help however they could. That experience, as traumatic as it was, also reinforced something we’ve always known—our communities support and show up for one another. 

We remain committed to that belief. And today, we bring you two opportunities to help our Appalachian neighbors through Helene. 

First, we are hosting a series of raffles, each featuring art and media from Appalshop’s catalog of films, albums, books, Appalshop merch, and art from our staff and long-time collaborators. There are FOUR separate raffles, each with varying themes and items. Every ticket you purchase will provide you one entry. There is no limit to how many tickets you can order, and you may enter as many raffles as you like.

Second, the executive producers of No Options: Hip-Hop in Appalachia have created a fundraiser as well. For every donation of $100 or more, June Appal Recordings will send you a special thank-you gift: a CD copy of No Options, an album celebrating the culture and resilience of the Appalachian region (while supplies last—don't forget to tell us where to mail your copy!). Your support will not only help families recover but also honor the rich traditions and spirit of the region.
