About the artist —

Jared Hamilton is a photographer based in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He's covered musicians and foodways; politics and celestial dreamscapes.

About the show —

"Familiar Paths" is a series of black and white photos shot on medium format film.

The photo essay is about the feeling of nostalgia Appalachian folks feel when they move away from the region. People have to move for a whole host of reasons: some go for school, some for opportunity in other areas. Once gone, it is easy to forget all the complicated parts of life in these mountains, and remember only the beauty. These photos attempt to look at Appalachia as a dreamscape of what home could be.
