Join us for the 2024 Red Fox Storytelling Festival on Saturday, October 26!
From noon to 5:00 pm, the Town of Pound Town Hall (8422 N River Rd, Pound, VA 24279) will host storytelling. The festival is free and open to the public. In addition to captivating tales, there will be author readings, craft vendors, food, and live music! Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia will also be doing a special unveiling you won’t want to miss, thanks to a generous grant from Virginia Tech with funding provided by the Mellon Foundation.
And if you’re still up for some fun, hike up to Killing Rock for a bonfire and the story of the Killing Rock Massacre from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. To reach the bonfire, park in the dirt lot beside the Marathon station. It is the upper trailhead parking for the Pine Mountain and Red Fox Trails. While the trail will be well-lit after dark, we encourage you to head over during daylight as the trail is rocky in places. The trail is described as moderate by the US Forest Service. Participants should dress appropriately for chilly after-dark temperatures, with closed-toe shoes.
In addition, as part of the Fall Festivities, the Town of Pound will offer Trunk or Treat at the Town Hall from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
The Red Fox Storytelling Festival is sponsored by us, Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia, the Town of Pound Tourism Committee, and the Historical Society of the Pound, so it is a true community event!
2024 Helene Resources
The recovery from Hurricane Helene will be a long road. If you are looking for ways to help, our pals over at Appalachian Voices have created a great resource page with shelters, organizations, requested donation items, etc. They also list various mutual aid organizations that can provide funds directly to the communities in need. Please share this resource widely.
Another central way to donate is through the Helene Response Fund hosted by the Appalachian Funders Network. Donations to this fund will be connected to local organizations and mutual aid funds on the ground in affected areas throughout Appalachia.
We are stronger together!
