Farewell from Our Executive Director

This year, Appalshop turns 55 years old. In organizations of this age, I’ve learned the only constant is change. For the last nine years, I have had the privilege of being Appalshop’s executive director, and the time has come for me to bid farewell to this incredible community. While I plan to remain in the position until our Board of Directors names a new executive director, likely in summer, I wanted to take a moment now to express my deepest gratitude.

First and foremost, I want to thank you, our loyal community, for your unwavering support and enthusiasm throughout my tenure. Your dedication to our mission of amplifying Appalachian voices and stories has been truly inspiring. Whether you’ve attended our events, shared our content, or stayed connected through our newsletter, your contributions have played a vital role in our success. I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the entire Appalshop team—past and present—for their hard work, passion, and commitment to our shared vision. It has been an honor to lead such a talented and dedicated group of individuals, and I am immensely proud of all that we have accomplished together.

Appalshop has experienced a tumultuous few years, with a generational transition, a global pandemic, and a devastating flood. Despite those hurdles, what I will remember are the countless projects, collaborations, and moments of joy we have shared. I am confident that the future of Appalshop is bright. We have a strong foundation, a passionate community, and a clear sense of purpose that will continue to guide us forward. 

Thank you all again for giving me this incredible opportunity. I am excited to see what the next chapter holds for this organization that means so much to me.
