Two months. 75%!

Back in November, we mailed letters and sent emails asking y’all to join our annual fundraising campaign. Your response has been incredible. We are more than thrilled to start out 2024 at over $100,000 in annual donations, nearly 75% of our goal! We asked you to support our work, and support it you did. We are left with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and appreciation.

As you saw in our first newsletter of the year, we have big plans for 2024. We’re expanding the reach and impact of our programming, investing in key organizational infrastructure, learning new and creative ways to tell new stories, and providing new opportunities for community members to engage with our work. All of this is made possible by your generous support!

If you haven’t had a chance to join the over 200 other friends of Appalshop who have already made a donation during this campaign, there is still time. If you received a letter from our staff, simply complete the included donation form and send your gift to PO Box 1325, Whitesburg, KY 41858. You can also make your donation online at www.appalshop.com/donate. However you choose to give, we’re just happy to have your support!

Screening of ᏓᏗᏬᏂᏏ - We Will Speak

Join us at 6:00 pm on January 19 at the Cowan Community Center for the screening of ᏓᏗᏬᏂᏏ - We Will Speak! This feature-length documentary was shot on-location in Oklahoma and North Carolina throughout 2019–2022 by Blurry Pictures. Through intimate interviews, vérité footage of community gatherings, and extensive archival materials, the film explores the nuanced ways the Cherokee language is vital to maintaining a unique cultural identity and relationship with the world. The collaborative project is also meant to act as an empowering agent of hope for Indigenous voices despite enduring inequity and oppression.
