Join us for Heritage Digitization and Mural Making Demonstrations!

Have you ever wondered how a mural gets made? Do you have old family photos that you wish you could have high quality digital copies of? Would you like to see your historic photos displayed alongside historic photos from the 1930's?

Join us for one of these upcoming Heritage Digitization and Mural Making Demonstration Events!

Appalshop is holding two Heritage Digitization days on Saturday, April 16th and Saturday, April 30th during which Pound and Wise County residents are invited to bring heritage items that help tell their family histories--such as photographs, scrapbooks, textiles, and souvenirs—to the Historical Society Building in downtown Pound for FREE digitization.

High resolution scans and photographs will be made of a select number of items per person. Original material will be returned along with complimentary flash drives. With owner’s permission, digitized items may be shared on a public website featuring family heritage items from around Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. For more information contact Caroline at [email protected] or call 606-633-0108.

Four of the best digitized historic photographs will be selected by the Historical Society of the Pound to be turned into large photo banners to be displayed in downtown Pound this Spring!

Also on April 16th the public is invited to a Mural Making Demonstration by Lacy Hale, as she creates the newest mural being installed in downtown Pound. You're invited to contribute to the mural by taking home a "quilt square" that will later be included in the completed mural. Your art can be part of this new permanent public art in Downtown Pound!
