In the March edition of WMMT’s Health Matters, host Dr. Van Breeding discusses coal worker’s pneumoconiosis, more commonly known as black lung disease. Dr. Breeding welcomes two special guests to the program, both with many years of experience in dealing with black lung: Dr. Mahmood Alam, a pulmonologist who runs the Black Lung Clinic at MCHC, and Anthony Warlick, the Program Director of MCHC’s Black Lung Clinic. Together, they discuss the health effects of black lung and detail how local miners and other folks affected can seek treatment and compensation. As always, Dr. Breeding and his guests also take audience calls in this installment.

Josh Richardson, of MCHC’s Whitesburg Medical Clinic, joins Dr. Breeding to discuss the 340B prescription drug program, a new federal initiative designed to provide low-cost prescriptions to the uninsured, offering huge savings to consumers on select prescription drugs. Dr. Breeding also welcomes Brandy Wilson (also of MCHC) to Health Matters to discuss the indigent drug program, a means of providing a free, temporary supply of prescripted medication to MCHC patients without health insurance. Stream the audio to hear an informative program on a way to save unreal amounts of money on prescripted medication! Also be sure to tune into March’s program, which will deal with the health effects of black lung on Monday, March 26th, at 6 p.m. on WMMT, your listener-supported, Real People Radio.

They discuss what influenza is, how to prevent the flu and what to do once you have the flu. WMMT’s Health Matters is a one hour talk and call-in show that airs on the fourth Monday of every month and discusses a health topics related to this region.
