Due to unforeseen circumstances, WMMT unfortunately must announce that we are postponing this week’s Bluegrass Express Live! performance, which had originally been slated to feature NewTown on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. We’re sorry for any and all inconvenience this may cause, and we’ll announce more details here on wmmt.org as soon as they are worked out. Thank y’all so much for understanding.

WMMT Presents
BLUEGRASS EXPRESS LIVE!
Featuring NewTown
Thursday, February 9 @ 7:30 PM
The up and coming bluegrass band NewTown from Lexington, KY is set to take the stage for Bluegrass Express Live! at the intimate Appalshop Theater in Whitesburg, KY on Thursday, February 9, 2012. NewTown features five artists demonstrating a vast array of acoustic music styling. The band is able to journey into a realm of their own while still maintaining the spirit of the legendary bluegrass and “Newgrass” sounds created within the walls of Lexington’s Red Slipper Lounge during the mid 70’s.
NewTown is Kati Penn on fiddle and vocals, Jr. Williams on banjo and vocals, CJ Cain playing guitar, James Kee on mandolin and vocals, and Terry Poirier on bass and vocals. NewTown creates their sound as a cohesive musical unit with a tangible diversity to which all listeners can relate.
Join us for Bluegrass Express Live!, Thursday, February 9 and see bluegrass the way it should be at the Appalshop Theater. It’s like having them in your living room. For more information and/or to make reservations call WMMT at 606-633-0108. Doors open at 6:30 PM with showtime at 7:30 PM. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students.

Come on out!
Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers in the Appalshop Theatre
WMMT would like to thank everyone who came out this past Thursday to the latest edition of the best live radio program this side of the Grand Old Opry, Bluegrass Express Live! We were lucky enough to welcome two excellent bands to our stage: Cumberland River set the tone for the evening with a fantastic set, and then the incomparable Larry Sparks (along with his Lonesome Ramblers) renewed what has become an annual December tradition of lighting up the WMMT stage with two high-energy, passionate sets of old favorites and new tunes alike. The audiences in-house, on the radio, and online were all treated to an evening of heartfelt singing, technical precision, and a whole lot of fun.

Eagle-eyed readers may also note the presence of one Jukebox Charlie (of WMMT’s Bluegrass Patches show, on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) onstage–Charlie was a Lonesome Rambler himself from 1982 to 1986, and it was a special treat to see one of WMMT’s own back on the stage with one of bluegrass music’s living legends.
Thanks again to all for coming out, to the musicians for a fantastic show, to Angie Hall for putting it all together, and to the hearty souls on the WMMT staff that made sure the evening went off without a hitch. We’ll see each of you at the next BGX Live! show after the new year!
P.S. To see more photos from Larry’s show, check out WMMT’s Flickr page.
