Shape Note Singing Workshop - 11am-Noon, Whitesburg Historic Post Office

Seedtime welcomes Dr. Ron Pen of the University of Kentucky to lead a shape note singing school during the festival at the Historic Whitesburg Post Office on Saturday, June 11th at 11:00am. People of all singing skill levels are invited to participate. Dr. Pen, a founding member of the Appalachian Association of Sacred Harp Singers, will be teaching Seedtime participants the American singing tradition known as “shape note singing.” This musical style, often called “Sacred Harp” singing, is a type of sight-reading notation that is a rich part of American heritage.  Dr. Pen’s workshop will be open to everyone willing to participate. No musical experience necessary.

Growers’ Market

Hankerin’ for some fresh produce and hand-grown crops? Seedtime 2011, with the Letcher County Tourism Commission and Extension Office, is happy to present an open Growers’ Market along Main Street Saturday afternoon.

Everyone who grows their own produce (and loves to eat it) is welcome to come on down and see what Mother Nature has to offer. Can’t you taste those watermelons? . . .
