Appalshop’s 24th Annual Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival will take place June 11th through the 12th in Downtown Whitesburg, KY.
Seedtime is looking for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to help with the set-up, maintenance, and closing of the festival. Volunteers will work on publicity, hospitality, or design.

Seedtime on the Cumberland Announces Lineup for 2010
WHITESBURG, KY: Seedtime on the Cumberland 2010, the 24th annual community arts festival presented by Appalshop, will take place June 11-12, with affiliated events on June 10 and 13. Festival events will be held at the Veterans Museum parking lot and along Main Street in downtown Whitesburg. Seedtime 2010 will be held in conjunction with the Whitesburg ARTWALK and the Hobo’s Diner Bike Night and Poker Run.
Musical will include Whitetop Mountain Band, Roan Mountain Hilltoppers, Matt Kinman, Karly Dawn and Little Saree, Carla Gover, The Rail Splitters, Don and Carmen Rogers, Brett Ratliff, Lee Sexton, Rich & the Po’ Folk, Clack Mountain Honky Tonk, The Cowan Creek Pick and Bow All-Stars, and live music from the Hobo’s Diner Bike Night house band.
Seedtime will also offer film screenings, picking contests, a shape note singing, literary readings, a Youth Bored concert, nature hikes, craft and food vendors, and the Carcassonne square dance. All official events will be free to the public, including the square dance on Saturday night.
In celebration of Appalshop’s 40th anniversary, Seedtime will feature several performances by artists from throughout the history of June Appal Recordings, Appalshop’s record label. For more information, visit the official festival website at appalshop.org/seedtime.

Seedtime Press Release–Norton, VA Film Screenings
Appalshop’s 24th Annual Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival will take place on June 11th through the 12th in Downtown Whitesburg and will feature a special film screening on Thursday, June 10 in downtown Norton, Virginia at the Kentucky-Virginia Opry.
The Appalshop archive will show footage of bluegrass legends like Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, and the Goins Brothers. You’ll also see highlights from the Mountain Community Television Collection, including Dynamite!, a variety show by John I. Burton middle schoolers; George Thompson: Street Cleaner, a snapshot of a Norton street sweeper with a gift for music; and many others. The screening is free and open to the public.

Seedtime Press Release–Ride for the Arts
Appalshop’s 24th Annual Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival will take place on June 11th through the 12th in Downtown Whitesburg and will include the “Ride for the Arts” charity motorcycle ride on Saturday, June 12.
Riders will register at Andy’s Cycle Sales in Hazard at noon, ride to the Appalachian Artisan Center in Hindman for lunch, and head over to Appalshop in Whitesburg for the afternoon’s events. AAC Master Artist-in-residence Kevin Blomenkamp will show his “Metal in Motion” exhibit at 3pm, with a Ride for the Arts T-shirt and prize give away at 3:30.
Seedtime on the Cumberland, Whitesburg ArtWalk, and Hobo’s Diner’s monthly Bike Night will offer plenty to see and do after the ride. All riders are welcome. The cost is $25 per person and $15 per passenger. All proceeds benefit the Appalachian Artisan Center. Come out and ride to support local art!

Seedtime Press Release–Hobo’s Diner Bike Night:
Appalshop’s 24th Annual Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival will take place on June 11th through the 12th in Downtown Whitesburg and will include the Hobo’s Diner Bike Night and Poker Run on June 12th.
The Poker Run will begin at 11am at Pine Mountain Grill on until 12pm. Bike Night will take place at 6pm until 11pm at Main St Whitesburg and will include events like A Panty Race, Slow Ride, Kids Tartar Race and Burn Out Competition. There will also be a contest ride with various trophies awarded, including Best in Show and People’s choice.

Seedtime Press Release–Guided Hike:
Appalshop’s 24th Annual Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival will take place on June 11th through the 12th in Downtown Whitesburg and is featuring a special Guides Bird Watching Hike on Pine Mountain Trail by the Pine Mountain Trail Conference on June 12th from 8am to 1pm. The Hike will meet at the Marathon Gas Station near Stateline on US 23. The walk will cover roughly 5 miles and will be from Us 23 to the Old Meade Homeplace and back. Bring binoculars, bird guides, sturdy shoes or boots, hat, sunscreen and rain gear, as well as water and snacks. The hike expects to see early successional-habitat birds; mature forest birds; grassland and opening birds; and raptors. The hike will be lead by United States Forest Service birder Lois Boggs.
