Norton, VA Archive Screenings before Seedtime 2010

Posted: May 27th, 2010

Before you head down to Whitesburg, KY for Seedtime on the Cumberland June 11-12, check out the excitement in downtown Norton, VA! Appalshop will present a special archival screening on Thursday, June 10 at the Kentucky-Virginia Opry from noon to 2pm.

The Appalshop Archive will show footage of bluegrass legends like Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, and the Goins Brothers. You’ll also see highlights from the Mountain Community Television Collection, including Dynamite!, a variety show by John I. Burton middle schoolers; George Thompson: Street Cleaner, a snapshot of a Norton street sweeper with a gift for music; and many others.

Appalshop started in 1969 as an experiment in community-based filmmaking. As we celebrate 40 years of producing and sharing media, we still believe in the power of communities and individuals to tell their own stories. The event is free and open to the public. Come celebrate with us!
